My approach to teaching children who are struggling with reading and writing difficulties is to always structure my lessons in a way that will be successful. So I would rather have the activities be too easy, rather than too difficult. It's also very important that every minute for me of instructional time as a Special Education resource teacher is used in meaningful activities. And what that means to me is that I'm using evidence based research practices and I'm also making it fun for the children. So children who struggle learning to read and learning to write need a lot of repetition, they need to learn to consolidate the sounds that the letters make, that's very important. For some of them this is extremely difficult, so they need multiple exposures and opportunities to consolidate this information. This can be done through flash cards, through games, through numerous activities, but it's important that it's structured in a way that they're successful.
