This is an activity that we created that integrates language, math, art, all in one activity. It involves fractions for our math unit. Any of the vocabulary that is on the work is, has been given to them earlier on in the week, pre-taught what it means, explained how it's used in this math strand.
Basically the run through of the activity, we had students create an art project which was their fraction friends, you can see the two there, using warm and cool colors for our art strand, we have taken them and created equivalent fractions. Because so much of our math these days is based on language we've had them do a significant write up of what they've done, an explanation of their work. So not only did they show us with a picture what an equivalent fraction is, they've explained in words what an equivalent fraction is, and they've also shown us numbers. So they have three different ways of explaining their work, so that when they go back to do something on their own, independent time or on a test, they can hit all three areas.
