Activity Description
Preparation:

Prepare the Class News bulletin board
- On a piece of colorful construction paper write and display the heading “Our Class News”

Record and display 6-8 headings and corresponding information to discuss on separate pieces of construction paper
- For example: Question of the Day, Book Review, People in the News
Implementation:
- Invite students to view the Class News bulletin board
- Refer to each heading and corresponding piece of information

Read aloud headings and ask questions for discussion
- For example: “What do you already know about this book?”
- Invite students to read aloud the information
- Review the information displayed on the Class News bulletin board on a daily basis
Adaptations For
English Language Learners/ESL:
- Display pictures or symbols beside each heading
- Emphasize facts by rereading information and pausing at important parts
- Prior to the activity review the headings with the student
LD/Reading & Writing Difficulties:
- Ask students to retell information in their own words to check for understanding
- Use different colors for each heading
- Include many visual representations of the displayed information
Cultural Appropriateness & Diversity:
- Include articles and information from a variety of cultures and communities
- Allow students to make personal connections to the information
Differentiated Instruction:
- Encourage varied responses during the discussion
- Provide opportunities for students to choose the articles and information on display
