Activity Objective
The goal of Milling to Music: Encouraging Brainstorming through Active Participation is to use a method developed by Jeanne Gibbs to foster thinking skills and the development of knowledge by encouraging students to share ideas and experiences related to a selected topic.

Activity Extensions:
- Implement this activity during a physical education or dance class and have students move in a variety of ways
- Use this activity to review information or during a transition time
- This activity is a great icebreaker and could be implemented at the beginning of the year with a list of "getting to know you" questions
- After reading a story have students respond to 3-4 comprehension questions by milling to music
Additional Comments:
- Allow both students in each pair time to talk by calling "switch."
- Teaching and practicing new concepts through a physical activity is a fun and motivating way for students to develop their understanding of a topic.
- Milling to music facilitates discussion and encourages everyone to participate.
