One of my favourite series of books is the pigeon books by Mo Willems because the character, the pigeon, has tons of voice. So after reading many of these books to the students they start to love it and use his style to create their own books. So all around our class there's many examples of how the students do this, and we even display their own books in our library so that they feel like they're authors and students can read their own books and books that their friends have created. The students make all types of pigeon books, they make little ones, they make bigger ones, they make books with their friends, and we display them in all different ways in our classroom. Because we were focusing on voice during this lesson, you can see that the information transferred into their own work because they were making this pigeon speaking with speech bubbles. So that was really interesting to see.
