On each group of tables in the classroom I have these two bins. Every morning the students come in and write their homework down in their agenda. When they're done, they put it into this green box, and they know that it's safe there until the end of the day. Then they can take it and put it in their bags before they go home. In the second bin, it's a way of keeping all of the materials organized. They know that their table group has all the pencils, erasers, and crayons that they need, and they know exactly how to store them.
