Today's Learning Goals
Communicating Clear Expectations with Subject-Specific Targets (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
Posting learning goals is extremely important so that students know what is expected of them at the end of the unit. Here is the 'Today's Learning Goals' board where we have the learning goals for the unit. As well, the students have the individual learning goals for that day's lesson in their notebooks. I have organized the learning goals into the different subject areas. As well, I include a character learning goal for the character attribute that is being learned that month.

Activity Objective
The goal of Today's Learning Goals: Communicating Clear Expectations with Subject-Specific Targets (Virtual Tour) is to ensure students understand the purpose of each lesson as well as the ultimate goal of each unit, which is displayed clearly on the board. Students keep track of daily lesson goals in their notebooks. A monthly character building goal is also posted on the learning goal board.
Quick Tips
Additional Comments:
- During whole class instruction display the learning goal for that lesson and have the students write it down in their notebooks. Ask the students how they think this lesson learning goal will help them reach their unit goals. - Keep daily learning goals available for building the success criteria of culminating projects. It will help the students generate a plan that is representative of all the learning that occurred during that unit. - When constructing the character attribute goal for each month, use a read aloud that you feel best represents that character attribute. Have the students reflect on this attribute and construct a class goal together.
