Popsicle Stick System
Supporting Classroom Organization and Time Management (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
When the students come into class each day, they put their popsicle stick in the 'I'm here' cup. These sticks are used throughout the day for students picking partners as well as for myself for student grouping and picking people so that they are accountable for their learning at all times.

Activity Objective
The goal of Popsicle Stick System: Supporting Classroom Organization and Time Management (Virtual Tour) is to help organize the students in the classroom. Popsicle sticks are used to keep track of student attendance: students sign in every morning by dropping their stick into the 'I'm here' cup. The sticks are also used throughout the day to divide students into pairs and small group with ease. It is also used as a tool to maintain student accountability by randomizing student selection during whole class discussion.
Quick Tips
Additional Comments:
- Popsicle sticks can also be used to help randomize the assignment of student classroom jobs such as watering the plants. - Popsicle sticks can also be used to randomize the selection of the Teacher of the Day. The Teacher of the Day is the student who leads all classroom discussions whenever appropriate. - An additional attendance trick would be to have a cup labeled 'Restroom'. Have students place their name in the 'Restroom' cup when they are exiting the room and then return their stick to the 'I'm here' cup when they return.
