Technology can be really useful in the classroom, but like a lot of schools, my school cant afford it. One thing that I have in my classroom that I find particularity useful is the Ladibug Document Camera. This camera captures images underneath it and projects in on to a screen. I use this document camera in all content areas. I use it for math to demonstrate how to use manipulatives.
Students love to come up to it and see themselves moving things around under the camera and students are so engaged watching their peers manipulate things on a screen. I use it in literacy because I have a lot of students in my classroom and when reading a text, I find it's important to have it projected on the wall in really large font so that everyone can read it at once.
Its great because under the document camera, you can do things like highlight words, underline them, you can answer questions. Students can come up and they can work on the paper and the rest of the class can watch. One activity, I was drawing under the document camera and while the students were watching my hand projected, I heard one of the students say, "Whoa, its like YouTube." I definitely knew the students were completely engaged.
