So there are many ways to teach students how to read books. There are three ways I teach my students to read stories. The first one is we teach them to read the words, the second way is we teach them that we can look at the pictures, and doing a picture walk in the story book can tell the story too. And the third way to teach students how to read a book is to retell the story. The students too will have fun in using the story to retell the story to their friends during activity time. And the props will help support the retell of story. They can work on sequence of events, and they can work on telling me what the beginning, the middle, and the end of the story is all about. It also will build vocabulary, and the props are great to help students work on that vocabulary and feel confident as readers because the props will serve as a visual cue.
