We really love to celebrate student's work and writing in our classroom and so what we do is create a monthly story board where we can display the students' writing each month. Each month they're given a topic and they write about that topic and then the next month's topic goes on top of the previous month. And so what we can do is we can refer back to students' work, show them all the great things that they accomplished, and what we can work on for next month. At the end of the year these get stapled into a book and sent home so the parents can see the progression of writing that's happened over the course of the year. This is a really great way to capture writing samples each month, but it's certainly by no means the only writing that we do in kindergarten. We also have writing workshop that we do every day, as well as a journal that we keep where we write about special things.
