Read All About It!
Talking About Books (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
The board I'm standing in front of now is our book talk presentation board. So you heard about our book talk and the criteria for our students. Once a student has done a book talk they recommend or not recommend by placing a cue card into the "good books" poster and students can come and see what other students are reading. The paragraphs behind me are submitted to me and placed up on the board. Before the paragraphs go up on the board, one of things we do as a community of learners is we present our paragraph but we also do group edit, where if the student chooses (and they always have the option to not participate in this) we put the paragraph up on the Promethean board and we will read the paragraph as a class and we will offer suggestions, and actually do a rewrite with the entire class to see if we can enhance and improve the paragraph. Once that's done we can print it out and display it on our board.
Activity Objective
The goal of Read All About It!: Talking About Books (Virtual Tour) is to promote the enjoyment of reading and writing by having students read, write and share reviews about their favorite books.
Quick Tips
Additional Comments:
- Book talks are a great way for students to learn about new books and authors.
- Display book reviews around the classroom so that students can read them when they are ready to select a new book to read.
