Classroom Timer
Building Time Concepts and Management in the Primary Grades (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
Students at this age don't have a clear concept of time. This is a visual tool to let them know how much is left for an activity that they're doing. When they see that there is this much left, they know that there is not much time left so they have this sense that they know they have to hurry up or move on. Sometimes as teachers, we tend to not give any warning. "Okay, time is up." We collect, and then the students feel that okay. For some students this is not a problem. But some students feel really bad about this because they want to finish what they already started; they might be in the middle of a sentence. This allows them to finish up their idea that they are working on and then they give it to me with no problems.
