Friday Folders
Building the Home-School Connection with Meaningful Homework (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
Every Friday, I send home a Friday Folder. The Friday Folder contains homework related to language, math, or sometimes any other subject that I want my students to work on at home with the support of their parents. The language homework usually relates to what we are working on and math always relates to what we are doing in the classroom. So the parents also have an opportunity to know what it is that we are doing in the classroom. They say, "Oh, you're working with money, you're working with temperature, or you're working with addition and subtraction". I can see that and they support them. They ask me questions. It's just a nice way to get them to know what it is that we are doing in the classroom and they can support their child further.

Activity Objective
The goal of Friday Folders: Building the Home-School Connection with Meaningful Homework (Virtual Tour) is to keep parents informed about what their children are working on in class and make them aware of any challenges that their child may be having. This provides parents with the opportunity to talk with their child about classroom activities and to provide additional practice and support at home.
Quick Tips
Additional Comments:
- Homework folders are a great way to keep parents in the loop and to provide them with the opportunity to see exactly what their children are working on. - You can include personalized notes to parents outlining specific areas in which their children may need help and providing meaningful practical activities (including engaging games and websites) they can use at home to help strengthen targeted skills outside of the classroom.
