I'm always looking for new ways to integrate subjects into my program, and this lesson on symmetry does just that. It integrates literacy, art, and mathematics. And the idea came from a student. The young man who created this finger paint picture of a beautiful butterfly showed us symmetry in one simple lesson, so we've decided that we're going to do our own paintings about different objects. It doesn't have to be a butterfly, but it does need to follow the procedures for symmetry; each side must be identical, but that's not the end of the story. The next step is to do procedure writing. We're going to write the process for step-by-step, how we created a symmetrical design.
