This Writing Wizards bulletin board is an open portfolio of the writing samples of the students in my class. First and foremost, it's a celebration for the students. They get so excited when their work comes up onto this bulletin board. They're published authors! It can't get any more exciting than that. The parents come in after parent-teacher interviews and they gravitate to this board. They want to look at the progress that their child is making from the beginning of the year over the months until where we are now. It's a celebration for them as well, but it's also a time for teachers to assess, what's missing? What would make a great mini-lesson? What areas are the students having difficulty to understand? How can we best help them to take the next step to be better writers and authors?
