When I conduct small group instruction with my students I only work with four to six students. The other students must be doing something constructive, they do anchor assignments. Before an anchor assignment is put out for the boys and girls to do I always model. They must be proficient in doing that activity because I need to be free to work with my small group. I cannot be disturbed, so I need to make sure that my boys and girls understand what to do, where the materials are, and where to place their completed activity. Anchor assignments or activities that the boys and girls do based on a book, or books, they have read, or are reading. If they've finished their assignment, they place it in an anchor assignment tub. Those projects that are not complete, they will place them in an anchor assignment folder. The next day, or the next time, we have small group instruction they will pull the folder out and continue until that project is finished.
