Each child in the classroom has a book bin. In the book bin there are four or five books that the boys and girls read during self-selected reading time and after they finish assignments. Inside the book bin you have the anchor assignment folder, this is where they keep a log of their books that they are reading. And they also have petals to go on the door once they have completed an assignment on that particular book. They also keep anchor assignments in this particular notebook that are not completed. There is a bookmark, they also have fluency phones in their book bin that they use to hear themselves read and not disturb their neighbors.
Students choose their books that they want to read and they will stay inside the book bin until they have finished a project. Each time we do a comprehension strategy I will give them a mini example or a mini frame for them to use as they read. They go across the room and read in various nooks. I will designate a comprehension strategy for them to practice that particular day and they will use the card to cue them on that particular strategy.
