Every week we have a particular letter that we focus on, and we do a lot of activities around the sound that that letter makes. And so when we introduce the letter we always have an alphabet bin that the children get to pull things out of. So as they pull out the article they would say "lemon, lemon, lemon starts with L, /l/ /l/ /l/ /l/ L." And we also have a little song that they sing, and it goes like this "L is the letter of the week. L is the letter of the week. /l/ /l/ /l/ is the sound L makes. L is the letter of the week."
We've made some little, tiny letter wands so for capital letters or big letters and for little letters, lowercase letters, and these are just foam letters, plastic letters you can find at a dollar store and tongue depressors stuck together with glue gun. So the children can go on a letter hunt for that particular letter, and they read all around the room and track the number of that letter that they found.
