I've purposefully situated this smaller word wall close to our writing center so the children can easily find the high frequency words that they need in their writing.
Another activity the children can do around those high frequency words, our Pop Corn words, is pull a piece of Pop Corn out of the bin, read the word, I, and then they would cross it off on their list.
Here the children are just matching some of those high frequency words, those Pop Corn words that they've learned, and the children have to find the matching container for the Pop Corn, and then of course they need to say the word, come. All. All. And with, and with. And these can be bought at a teacher's supply store, or you can also find lots of websites that give you lists of high frequency words.
This is a really neat, little word wall. Once again using our Pop Corn words, the common or high frequency words that they need to learn in kindergarten. They can come up to the word and actually take it out and practice reading the word, stretching it out /i/s/. They can use this to walk around the room and find it in stories that they're reading. Or perhaps use it at the writing table if they need it. It's nice and portable because it folds up like that. So if you have limited space in your classroom and you needed to tuck it away and then bring it out again, it's there.
