At the beginning of the year this word wall is blank. And each day we have a particular helper of the day and their name gets added to the word wall. We do other fun things with that child's name as well, like cutting up their letters, mixing them up and putting them back together. Also, highlighting who is that helper of the day, and having their name woven into the message of the day. As we introduce our word of the week, our Pop Corn words of the week, that also gets added to the word wall. And those are the only things we place in this particular word wall. So it's not too overwhelming for them. I like that it's low because it's at the children's eye level when they're sitting down. And they really do have fun coming and using this word wall with the pointers.
Because I have two classes, a morning class and an afternoon class, we distinguish those children's names. So the yellow names are all the morning class, and the blue names are all the afternoon class. And around the room I've also placed those children's names on rings at various places so that they can access those when they're at that the painting station or at the writing station. It's also fun for them to be able to write each other's names.
