The dollar store is a great resource for finding materials that support literacy. Here is a little slinky that the children can use to stretch out the sounds in a word and then quickly put them back together to blend those sounds. So if we were sounding out bike we would say /b/i/k/ bike.
Activity Objective
The goal of "Slinky" Phonemic Awareness: Stretching and Blending Words (Virtual Tour) is to provide students with an opportunity to blend sounds to make and read words.
