Small Group Shared Reading
Building Motivation for Literacy and Concepts of Print in Kindergarten (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
Within my class there's a range of ages and reading levels. Some children are ready for guided reading but some are not, and they need lots of reinforcement with the concepts of print, things such as directionality, one-to-one matching, return sweep. And so, for these little ones we do small group shared reading. I introduce the book to them, we take a picture walk, we talk about key concepts in the book, we rehearse some vocabulary, and then I read it to them. We read it again and when they feel comfortable, they can join in.
