How to Make a Fire Truck!
Launching Procedural Writing by Integrating Social Studies and Literacy (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
One of our units of studies in Social Studies is Community Helpers. And as a result we invited a fireman to come into our classroom and speak to the children. The children were really keen and they really wanted to make fire engines. So we put together a procedure for making a fire engine so they could do it independently. And it worked really well. We read it together, so it's reading, it's directionality, all incorporated. Following this step-by-step procedure, the children could easily make their own fire engines. We also did some interactive writing about the fireman.
Activity Objective
