Reading Buddy Props
Motivating Reading with a Partner to Practice Early Literacy Skills (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
These are our Reading Buddies' Props. Students love to grab a corresponding pair of glasses or a corresponding pointer and to sit down and read together. It's really fun to watch students as they sit down and read together because you notice that students are learning strategies from the other child, and when it's their partners turn to read you'll often find that the student will start to utilize some of the strategies that they saw their friend using while they were reading. When students are reading together I would like them to be meta-cognizant of their learning, so I often encourage reading buddies to ask their friend what did you do to practice being a good reader today? When students answer that question they're becoming more aware of the strategies they're using as good readers, and they're more likely to use those strategies from then on.
