Learning Center Board
Organizing the Classroom to Support Learning (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
This is our Learning Center Board. At the beginning of the year students start by using four centers. This way they get to know the expectations at each center as well as the materials and resources that are there and they become very fluent in the activities that are located there. We have various labels which indicate the different centers. Literacy centers are in pink so that I always know how many literacy activities that I have ongoing on any given day. There are magnets with every center as well. Students place a magnet at the center that they intend to go to. This way we can keep track of how many students are at any given center. There are allowed up to four students at most of the centers. It's a way for students to do a lot of one to one correspondence so that they're accountable for the number of students that are there. In green I have the centers which are open, and in red we've indicated which centers are actually closed. It's a really quick visual for students to know as soon as they come in in the morning which centers that they're going to be able to attend to and which ones that they're not going to be able to go to.
