Over the Rainbow!
Integrating Vocabulary Development and Artwork based on the Colors of the Rainbow (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
Students expressed a real interest in rainbows while we were studying the weather. So I decided to use this as a platform for jumping off and teaching them all about color, because in this classroom we have a lot of ELL learners and they don't necessarily have the appropriate word for the color. Within one of our literacy centers we actually created color words by using found materials. Within math center the students sorted colored fabric and put different colored fabric within each jar according to the colors of the rainbow. Within the arts we created colored weavings. Each child decided what their favorite color was and then they worked collaboratively to create a weaving of their favorite color. Based upon their favorite color, children even made their own scarf which they will use within dance and they'll use within drama as well at the weather station and the children actually wrote about their favorite color and why it was their favorite color on the scarf.
