Making a Name for Yourself!
Learning about Letters with Name Wands (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
At the beginning of the year when we're learning about letters and letter sounds we're often doing this through our names, and one of the things that we do is we create name wands. We write each letter of our name on a linking cube and then we attach the linking cubes together to create our name. This gives children a sense that every letter works together to make a word. We've also learned that every name starts with an upper case letter. So every child has begun their name with an upper case letter, and this is a great tie in to math as well. Often what I have them do is line them up from longest to the shortest or the shortest to the longest at math activity center.
Activity Objective
