Pointing Fingers!
Using Props to Focus on Individual Words and Inter-Word Spaces (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
Within kindergarten finding spaces between words as well as creating spaces between words is very important, so to get students to do this I have purchased from the dollar store numerous finger pointers which are actually fingers. So around Halloween time is a great time to go out and purchase some of these fingers because you can get about ten for a dollar and students use these at Writing Center, so when they're writing a word they know that after the word they're going to use a finger space and then start their new word. Also, when students are reading if they want to make sense of the number of words that are on the page they can use them to point to each word on a page or they can use them at the end of each word to decipher where a word begins and where one ends.
Activity Objective
The goal of Pointing Fingers!: Using Props to Focus on Individual Words and Inter-Word Spaces (Virtual Tour) is to help students understand that individual words are separated by spaces.
