Alphabet Soup
Making Words with the -at Family (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
This is Alphabet Soup. Basically I've put a bunch of different letter magnets in a bowl that could create assorted words. In this case I've put a lot of words that are part of the /at/ family because that's the family that we're studying at the moment. Children will take a scoop of the letters and then try to create as many words as possible. Once they've created those words, they write them down on a sticky and read them aloud.
Activity Objective
The goal of Alphabet Soup: Making Words with the -at Family (Virtual Tour) is to provide students with opportunities to identify letter-sound correspondences and make words with common spelling patterns.
Quick Tips
Additional Comments:
- Extend the activity by having students write the words they made on a sticky note. - Include magnetic letters that make words from a word family that you are currently studying.
