Transcript

Let's Talk: Community Corner is a space for students. Here, they can come and write questions that typically pertain to things that are going on outside of the classroom. Things that are happening at recess with friends. I've actually had a question before that had been asked about a student trying to deal with issues around bullying.

What I typically do is print up a question with no name, and students have the opportunity to look at the question and respond to it. At that point, we sit down together and we look at the responses given by students in the class. This is a great opportunity for students to problem solve and have the teacher act as a facilitator because, at the end of the day, these students need to be able to deal with their problems without me being there.

Activity Objective

The goal of Let's Talk Community Corner: A Safe Place for Problem Solving (Virtual Tour) is to provide a space for students to write questions they may have regarding things outside of the classroom. It is a great opportunity for students to develop their problem-solving skills while the teacher acts as a facilitator.

Quick Tips

Additional Comments:

- Not all students are going to want to come forward with their issues, so it's a great idea to offer students time to speak with you privately. However, the goal should be to encourage students to try and work out their issues independently.
