Math Wall
Building Understanding of Specialized Words (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
This is designated as my math corner in the classroom. Next to my hands-on math table, I have a wall where I typically post rich vocabulary words that have to do with the current math unit under study. After I teach a lesson, I post the math work on this wall so that students can come and refer to the rich vocabulary. Words such as repeating pattern, core, attributes, are words that students tend to forget or they may begin the work the following day and need a reminder. I encourage students to come to this wall frequently to refer to these words that are posted.

Activity Objective
The goal of Math Wall: Building Understanding of Specialized Words (Virtual Tour) is to introduce, define and demonstrate the use of words that will help students learn math concepts. The teacher dedicates a section of the wall to the current math unit of study. Students are introduced to new words during that unit and reference the wall during their math work. Later when the class has gone on to another math unit, students can still refer back to words they may have forgotten from earlier units.
Quick Tips
Additional Comments:
- Place your math vocabulary wall somewhere in the classroom where all students can access it easily during math activities. - Review new words throughout the relevant math unit to ensure that students can apply them.
