Welcome to the Poetry Nook. This is a place where students can come, read, learn about, and write poetry. This is also a place where students can come and learn about writer's block. Often times in poetry, students feel like they get stuck; they don't know what to write about. In this corner, they can come and look at the steps to take in order to get those creative juices flowing. After teaching a certain type of poetry, I post the anchor chart in the classroom so that students can come and refer to it when they are creating their own pieces. I also have books in this classroom, in this corner, there are great examples of the various types of poetry that are listed on the anchor charts.

The goal of The Poetry Nook: Gathering Ideas for Writing (Virtual Tour) is to provide students with a place to gather ideas about poetry and to aid in the development of their own writing pieces. Students can read, write poetry, and learn about writer's block. It gives them steps on what to do when they are stuck while writing to elicit new ideas. The teacher posts the anchor chart in the class after teaching a certain type of poetry as a reference point for students to further assist them in writing their own poetry.
