Organizing a Paragraph (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
In this writing task, the students practiced writing a paragraph. Before they did the activity, we looked at the criteria and the requirements for writing a paragraph. As you can see on the chart, we went through four different sections of writing a paragraph. The students were then given an envelope that contained sentence strips, and they had to organize the sentences in the correct, or the proper order, that would make up a good paragraph.

The goal of Sentence Sort: Organizing a Paragraph (Virtual Tour) is to provide students with practice in organizing their writing and help students develop writing fluency to ease the process of composing.

- Allowing students to work in small groups or pairs will provide opportunities for meaningful talk and active participation.
- Including a variety of topics and written paragraphs will allow students to share their work with the rest of the class.
- Once students have completed the activity, review the parts of a paragraph with the whole class. You may wish to display a paragraph on a piece of chart paper with labels indicating the different parts.
