Transcript
In this Working with Words activity the students are given a number of letters that create a word. We first start with a chart and brainstorm together and come up with words that contain three of these letters and then we move on to words that contain four letters and then words that contain more than four of the letters that I have given them. After we come up with all of these words together, their job then, their task, is to come up with the secret word. And in this case the secret word was instruments.

Additional Comments:
- Exposing students to new vocabulary words will help them expand their vocabulary. Providing opportunities to practice spelling words through a fun and motivating game will also help students commit the words to memory and will also promote the automatic use of the words when communicating with others.
- Explicit instruction in word recognition has a direct effect on students' reading ability.
