This is our math center, our Seashell Counting Center. And we do a variety of things in mathematics that go along with literacy. We tell time, count money, and we do addition and subtraction, and for further reinforcement, we use our math quiz game show. And this correlates really, really well with literacy. The children are asked to pick a topic, for example they would say, "Ms. Collins I would like what time is it for 10 points." So they would go and select the card, and they will have to read that question, for example, "what number is the minute hand pointing to at 8:15?" And if they need any help, they could to figure out what number is the minute hand pointing to at 8:15. And all the children know that the minute hand is the long hand.

The goal of Sea Shell Counting: Integrating Mathematics and Literacy (Virtual Tour) is to promote the enjoyment of literacy by integrating literacy with math and art.
