Teacher: Okay boys and girls, we're going to do something very exciting today. We're going to learn how to write a paragraph. How many of you all would love to learn how to write a paragraph? Well very good. There are some things about the paragraph that you already know. You already know how to write complete sentences, don't you?
Student: Yes ma'am.
Teacher: We know that complete sentences begin with a what?
Teacher and Students: Upper case letter.
Teacher: And end with a what?
Teacher and Students: Punctuation mark.
Teacher: Very good. Let's look at our rules. Rule number one. It says you must have complete sentences. Rule number two. Punctuation marks go at the what?
Teacher and Students: End.
Teacher: Of that sentence, okay? Now we're going to talk about paragraph structure. Paragraph structure is almost how it's built, okay? In a paragraph, you are to have five sentences. Everyone say that.
Teacher and Students: Five sentences.
Teacher: Okay? Everyone hold up their hand. Our thumb is going to be our topic sentence. Say that.
Teacher and Student: Topic sentence.
Teacher: Then we have our three fingers that are going to be our detail sentences. Okay? Everyone say that.
Teacher and Students: Detail sentences.
Teacher: And then our pinky is going to be our concluding sentence. Say that.
Teacher and Students: Concluding sentence.
Teacher: Our concluding sentence. Very good. Let's look at rule number four. It says ''indentation'', okay? Before you write any paragraph, you must indent. What must you do?
Students: Indent.
Teacher: You must indent. We're going to indent with two fingers, okay? Hold those two magic fingers. That is how we're going to indent each and every paragraph that we write, okay? Now, put those fingers down, and let's look at the very last rule. It's the most important rule, and it says ''editor's check''. Say that.
Teacher and Students: Editor's check.
Teacher: And who do you think the editor is? You are, okay? You are the editor. You are to go back, and you are to make sure that each sentence begins with a what?
Students: Upper case letter.
Teacher: And ends with a what?
Students: Punctuation mark.
Teacher: Very good. You are to make sure that you have complete sentences, and all of those sentences have a punctuation mark, okay? You are to make sure that all of your words are spelled correctly, okay? That is why we have our word wall, and we have so many words around our classroom, so you shouldn't have a problem misspelling any words. Are you all ready to write a paragraph?
Students: Yes.
Teacher: Alright. Here we go. Tell me, how do you feel about this school year? What are some words that we could use to talk about our school year? How do you feel? [Student's Name]?

Teacher: Great. Very good. Great. I like that word. Does everyone like that word? We're going to use the word ''great''. What is the very first thing that I need to do before I write my paragraph?
Students: Indent.
Teacher: Indent. With how many fingers?
Students: Two.
Teacher: Two. Very good Give me one more sentence that we could use for our concluding sentence. [Student's Name]?
