It's important that students have certain tools that are going to help their learning. For example, some of the students in my classroom find noises very distracting. By putting a pair of noise cancelling headphones, it easily cancels the noise and helps them focus. One of the great things is that they are just here and available for students to use whenever they need it. I love watching when we get down to a task and a student quietly gets up, helps himself to a pair of noise cancelling earphones and returns back to the task at hand. It's an effective and easy tool to help them with sustained attention and really getting down to the most important thing and the goal they are after.
