JUMP Math
Discovering and Understanding Math Concepts (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
In my classroom, we use the JUMP Math program. The main premise of the program is that every child can be successful at math. The program ensures this by eliminating many common barriers in math programs. For example, many math programs and their corresponding work books are very, very heavy with language. In a classroom where language can often be a barrier, such as reading and decoding and trying to understand what they question is asking you, the JUMP math program eliminates the language and focuses on the math and the task at hand. We use a lot of manipulatives in the program that teach students it's a part of their learning, and if its going to help you solve the problem then you should definitely use it. Another barrier is that if a student doesn't get it, it's their fault. It's not. The program really focuses on asking the teacher how can I ensure that every student is being successful and that every student is learning. Therefore, the teacher's manual offers multiple ways to teach a new strategy, ensuring that every student is learning and thriving with a new math concept.
