Spring Stories
Developing Writing Skills in Kindergarten (Virtual Tour)
Transcript
Spring has sprung within our classroom. The wonderful way to engage your children in learning activities is through asking open-ended questions and allowing children to use their imagination to guide and encourage creativity. This learning opportunity was a science activity about seasons and seasonal changes. I had the children close their eyes and think about looking out their window in the spring. When they look out their window, what can they see? So the children are given a blank sheet Tabula Rasa and they are to create their spring scene. But to go above and beyond there were materials supplied to the children so that they could create their fantastic windows. They could put blinds, they could put drapes, and they could make their own scene, as to looking out their window in the springtime. The children made pictures and to enhance their learning opportunity, the children wrote about their pictures within their stories. The children were creative in their pictures. Their depictions displayed all their signs of spring: There was a rainbow, there's rain, there's flowers. And then the students were given the opportunity to write about their depictions and to describe in a very nice way, what their pictures and their spring stories were all about.
