Student Resource Coordinator
Special Education in a Hebrew Day School
Transcript
I am the ISP coordinator of our school. "ISP" stands for Individual Student Pathway. It is made up of a team of professionals who respond to the different needs of the students. As the ISP coordinator, it is my job to make sure that assessments are completed on the students, and a plan is put in place to service their needs. The team's made up of resource teachers, guidance counselor, an assistive technology expert, a psychologist, occupational speech and physiotherapists, and the Kol Koreh team. Now the goal of the ISP Department is to help students gain success in school; academically, socially and emotionally. In order to do that, we have to pull together all of our resources to gain a clear picture of the students' needs. We do so by speaking to parents and their classroom teachers, and then students are assessed academically to see where they are in their levels. At this school we have a program called Kol Koreh. The teachers of this program start by assessing the literacy levels of the students in Junior Grade 1. They use benchmark assessment tools. If they are not at the expected level for their age group then support is provided for these students to improve their literacy. It might be support that would occur one-on-one outside the classroom, maybe daily throughout the week, or a perhaps two or three times a week in small groups depending on the level of their deficiency. Now the Kol Koreh team re-assesses the students' levels a few times a year and revise the plan according to the needs of the student.
